Custom Boot Animations with this neat app!

With this tool by BioHazard you will be able to run a custom boot animation on your Xbox 360 JTAG/RGH console.

FakeAnim v0.60b by BioHazard, is a nice app that allows you to run a custom boot animation in the form of WMV 9 encoded videos, so they can be played on the console prior to showing the dashboard.

The console must be running the newest DashLaunch version 3.03.

Here's its official info:

Quote:

Overview: This release will allow for fake animations in the form of WMV 9 encoded videos to be played on the console prior to showing the dashboard. Since this file is only loaded after the console is ready there will be a minor increase in boot times. This has no impact on glitch times since the glitch occurs prior to this file ever being loaded. The Delay and Calibration settings are designed to allow the user to tweak the video to their specific system and display. This tweaking makes it so that the video does not get cut off. Please read below for a full set of instructions:

Installation & Configuration:

Important: Do NOT attempt to delete bootanim.xex if you are unable to restore to a previous NAND dump via hardware.

Requirements: DashLaunch v3.03 is required for this to work.

Installation:

- Copy over all files in the archive to the HDD or USB of the 360.

- Edit your launch.ini to have fakeanim = point to the fakeanim.xex

- Reboot the console and make sure the application runs. Ignore the Red Screen being present for a while.

- Once you have verified the application is launched remove bootanim.xex** from the consoles Flash. (Use FS3 or FTP).

- Reboot the console and pay attention to how long the red screen is displayed.

- Calibration takes place in the fakeanim.ini file and should be checked with a cold boot in order to force the GPU to initialize.

- Once calibration is complete edit the fakeanim.ini and set calibration to 0

Calibration Notes:

- To adjust the length the red screen is shown. Add to the number to increase the time take delay. Take away to decrease it.
- The delay function is used to ensure the video does not get cut off during the monitor and GPU starting each "delay" is 250ms. Valid entries are between 0 and 100.
- For slims start around 5.
- For Phats start around 13.
- The goal is to get the red screen to show for the least amount of time possible on the Evil Laugh wmv when performing a cold boot.

Changelog

Version 0.0.2:
- Fixed: .avi files not playing after a .mkv, .mov or .mp4 file has been played
- Fixed: When entering a new folder « Item number/All item number » will not update until moving down on d-pad
- Fixed: When paused, the osd buttons (y, xbox, x) unpauses video, only (a) pauses/unpauses now

- Fixed: Lb and Rb doesn’t seek -600/+600
- Fixed:The D-pad being buggy after a video has been played
- Fixed: Some bugs with osd displaying delay as -0 because of it being close to zero
- Fixed: Removed the 1 pixel-width line artifact in videos
- Changed: Osd-button (y) now switches from directly on/off, this means it only needs 1 press to full osd and not 3 presses
- Changed: When pressing the pause-button (a) progression will also show
- Changed: The page down icon now only shows, if there are at least more items than a page
- Changed: The (b) button doesn’t exit to homescreen any more, it goes one level up, until root then goes to homescreen

- Changed: Updated libass to 0.10.0
- Changed: Ass/ssa is now subtitle default which means outline, color, scale etc. works -Changed: The audio delay option in osd is more logical, a audio_delay of 100 ms doesn’t mean audio is 100 ms before video (mplayer standard), but 100 ms after

- Changed: Updated GUI with button indicators, changed page size from 10 to 15
- Added: « Restart » and « Shutdown » buttons
- Added: A « smart menu » that saves your last selection and path when exiting a menu or playing a video (resets between devices)
- Added: Resume-playback function: if you stop a video in the middle of playing, it will save last position and resume from there if desired (more than a minute of video has to be played)
- Added: All libmenu’s working functions available in the main osd, so libmenu will no longer be needed
- Added: Patch from mplayerdev’s mailing list which adds support for playing videos inside multivolume uncompressed rar files
- Added: If a .rar file loads, it now gets the extension of the archived file, so the true extension profile is loaded
- Added: The (back) button goes directly back to homepage
- Added: Sort files. By pressing (x) in the file browser, you can order by Name or Date (day/month/year)
- Added: ASS settings can be accessed from the subtitle osd menu
- Added: Set ass=yes and vf=ass in mplayer config. This means it can be disabled and subfont can be used if desired

Version 0.0.1:
-Intial Release

Known Issues

- Cannot seek in files over 2 gigabytes (split the files for now)
- Prolonged pausing causes audio to go out of sync, « fix » this by seeking once in the file
- ASS Subtitle handling can cause freezes and lag. If rand
om crashes in video occurs, set ass=no and change vf=ass to #vf=ass in config
- Playing .rar can be unstable, sometimes freezing XMPlayer
- If your subs doesn’t show all the characters, try a different font by replacing subfont.ttf in folder
- XMPlayer does not always mount usb (uda) even though it loads, reload XMPlayer and try again
- Endless loading screen: Try formatting using Gui Format32, or try placing xenon.elf and symbols.elf on root of xbox’s internal hdd. Place the folder on the root of a usb (ntfs, fat), and then run xenon.elf from the internal harddrive via Dashlaunch.
- Can crash while using play’n'charge kit
- Audio balance not working
- Pictures and Music are not supported
- No networking!

Install

- Copy all files to the root of an usb stick, launch it by xell or latest dashlaunch

New revision of Corona Motherboard (v3 / 16mb) spotted in the wild

A 'downgraded' Corona version?

It looks like a new XBOX 360 Corona MoBo revision was spotted by the guys over at hackfaq.net highlighting some security changes.

Thanks to the guys over at hackfaq.net, there's some info of a new ‘downgraded’ Corona revision (v4? or v3/16mb) for the XBOX 360.

As expected, there are some security changes. Here are the main two, via Homebrew-Connection:

Quote:

- There is no longer POSTbit connected to a point outside of the processor. The POST is used to get the debug info from the console and is used in the RGH to know if the console start glitched (ie start correctly) or if it need a reset to try another time.

This means it’s now a lot harder to glitch the new machines … for example the russian guys over at hackfaq removed the CPU to get postbit access. Let’s hope hackers find a alternative to the POST.

- Some resistors linked to J2C3.X pads have also been removed. These points are used to dump/flash the nand and for i2c SDA/SCL signal transmissions. You will need to brigde the pads to be able do read/write and properly send the i2c signals.

According to them, most likely this isn't the same Corona revision that T-X was able to glitch, as they've said that one has a 64MB NAND, while the MoBo described here is said to have a 16MB NAND. But of course, for the moment, that is just speculation.

So, just stay tuned for more news about this new Corona rev. in the upcoming days!

Multi-disc support added!

The Wasabi team has released another firmware update for the 360 device

We have been informed about the new firmware update of the Wasabi 360 Ultra for Xbox 360 consoles, specifically the v1.3 BETA 2:

Quote:

We have released Wasabi 360 Ultra firmware v1.3 BETA 2 which includes the following changes:

  • Multi disc support for the DVDMenu system.

There are many tutorials on the web detailing how to extract drive keys using the RGH mods.

We are currently researching support for HDD's with 1024 bytes sector size. This will be supported in a future release.

The Wasabi 360 Ultra users guide has been updated to reflect the changes in this firmware release. Both may be obtained from the downloads page.

Party Buffalo v2.0.1.0 has been released

The XBOX 360 HDD/USB device explorer.

CLK is back with an update for 'Party Buffalo', fixing a nasty bug related to the disk size calculations...

Party Buffalo by 'CLK' is an XBOX 360 HDD/USB device explorer.

The just released v2.0.1.0 fixes a bug related to disk size calculations. Sadly, it looks like this will be the last update for this neat app, unless something goes wrong with this version.

Here's the official info:

Quote:

Hello everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve written on this blog, and since I’ve updated Party Buffalo. A friend of mine was trying to use my cross-platform FATX explorer, and it didn’t work for him. I thought that it was odd, since the FATX libs should be 100% solid as far as reading and disk size calculations and all that crazy stuff goes.

Well, I was wrong. Here was the problem, which also applied to Party Buffalo: I was using the raw disk size, and not the actual size that the Xbox uses from the security sector. So, for some disks, the size of the file allocation table would be off by +- (around)0×3000, give or take, which would then make the data region of the Data partition off by that amount as well, therefore giving the user bad (just random) filenames and other weird stuff happening.

I said this before, but this is almost 100% guaranteed to be the last update for Party Buffalo, unless I really screw up this update. I’ve since moved on to other projects. I’m starting to get in to web development (Ruby on Rails to be precise), and this project has lost my interest. I was debating finishing Up, but then two friends of mine showed me the awesome work they’ve done on their cross-platform STFS package manager (also does a lot more than just that!) called Velocity. They made the excellent point that it’s useless on non-Windows platforms without a device explorer. So, I’ve started to start development on Up again, and hope to have it done this winter.

Some reflections on Party Buffalo, and CLKsFATXLib:

I would have designed them both a lot differently. Looking through the source, I realize how much I didn’t understand when I started off, and how much better I could have made both projects in terms of performance and source structure/readability. Things got messy. Things got ugly. I sort of started to do that with the Drive class in Up’s FATX library, but I plan on sorting that out before the project is done with (how about this weekend?). I also probably should have made the update system a lot nicer, and shouldn’t have done that bullshit with the ads/latest news stuff. No one cares about that. It was annoying. I did it because the person who was hosting my server before suggest I do it in order to gain ad revenue for both myself and him. So, sorry for subjecting you guys to that.

I also probably should have used some kind SVC. Seriously. I started coding Party Buffalo when I was 13 I believe. I didn’t know what SVC was, so I didn’t use it. It was only at the end of the project that I finally uploaded the source to Google Code, and in hindsight I probably should have just uploaded it to GitHub. Zipping up the source and uploading it to a dump site really wasn’t the best solution (and it’s what I’m doing for this release, since I’m too lazy to reconfigure Google Code stuff and set it up on my GitHub page).

Per usual though, you can find the sources at http://clkxu5.com/drivexplore/src/. I did not provide CLKsFATXLib with its own source in the subfolder. Just grab the latest DLL if you need it.

To all of you who still use Party Buffalo: thanks for sticking with me. When Up is released, it should be pretty good, and make up for the flaws in Party Buffalo. If you’d like to follow the project, you can find its GitHub page here: https://github.com/landr0id/Up. You can also follow me on Twitter (@landr0id) if you’d like. And yes, that picture is of me in a fur coat.

This update is recommended.

Kinect 2.0, Blu-ray discs and more!

UK Xbox World has shared new details on the next-gen XBOX console in its last issue, just like PSM3 Magazine did with the upcoming PS4.

The last issue of Xbox World will contain eight pages of everything there is to know about the next Xbox console, just like the PSM3 Magazine did with the PS4.

According to magazine’s editor in chief Dan Dawkins, everything revealed in the issue pertaining to “Durango” will “be revealed long before E3 in June”. Here are some of the juciy details shared:

Quote:

Xbox World claims the next console from Microsoft will simply be called “Xbox” and introduces Kinect 2.0, runs Blu-ray discs, features directional audio, TV output/input, an “innovative controller” and AR glasses will be made available later on down the road.

The dev kits currently contain a CPU with “four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores” and 8GB of RAM
Also, here's a 3D mock-up of what it expects the next-gen Xbox will look like:

Quote:

"We built ours with the same glossy face and patented VapourMG magnesium alloy Microsoft uses for its Surface tablet, and modelled the silver band after its new 'Wedge' touch keyboard and flexible Arc Touch mouse," it writes. "The future will be black, sharp and curved."
There you have it. Of course, those are just rumors, as there's nothing confirmed yet, so -for now- take them with a grain of salt!
